Happy Halloween

Can you tell what she's saying? CHEESE, of course!! She says this everytime she sees the camera. Too cute. This was her first Halloween trick or treating and she quite likes it. What's not to like? You put on a fun suit and go door to door and people put candy in your bag.

New use for a doily

I'm not one for using doilies when decorating my house but it sure looks great on a layout!

A Night of Firsts

FIRST SNOW!?!

What a surprise this was considering we've had record breaking high temperatures this month.

Another first for us last night was having the baby stretch out her night a little more. She's been sleeping 6 - 8 hours on average. Last night, she was in bed at 8pm and didn't get up to feed until 5am. She went back down and slept until nearly 9am. What a treat!

Third, the Canadian dollar closed at nearly $1.05 yesterday. That is the highest it's been in my lifetime. This is quite a climb from the all time low of $0.62 in January, 2002. This new rate is good news for me as I am going on a shopping trip to the states in a few weeks.

One more scrappy first will be posted later today. You will never guess what I used as an embellishment on my layout.

Recent Projects

It's that time again...

Voting for round 4 of the Idol is tomorrow, Saturday, October 27th from 10am - 10pm EST.

The challenge this week was to create a layout with no photos and a letter to our child. I really enjoyed this challenge as it forced me outside my comfort zone. I LOVE how it turned out and hope you do, too. My layout is called "The Best of Us". Do stop by and take a peek. Better yet, why not cast a vote my way!

Dude Designs

This month at Scrap Lovers, Dude Designs was the sponsor. Our theme was 2 x 2 and we chose to interpret it in two ways, literally (2" x 2" page elements) and figuratively (things that come in pairs). Here are a few of my creations.

Round 3 of the Gr8 Cre8ive IDOL

I finished my layout for round three of the Idol. It is called the "BIG" day and when you look you will see why I chose the title I did. I used the new Madera Island collection by SEI. LOVE this line!!

Labour of Love

I have been working on this layout off and on for about a week. Prima is sponsoring a contest using their paintable papers and I decided to give it a try. I started out with this page...

..and ended with this one.

I cut the entire border out with my exacto knife and glued it to cork after painting and beading the flowers and swirls. Believe it or not, the cut work was the easy part. It was the bead work that really took patience. I used liquid beads that I received from a good friend, Kelly, in a swap we had about a year ago!?! I'm finding all kinds of treasures since I have my scrap space organized.

Journaling reads: When photographing Julia, you have to be quick as you only get once chance.

The photo in the middle has "Take One" written in the bottom corner. Takes two and three are the top two pictures. You can appreciate why I stopped taking photos at that point. All three photos were taken over a span of about one minute when she was a day old.

The butterfly was made using the underside petals of a flower. I sewed them together and made the body from chipboard and mini flowers.

So there you have it...my first attempt at using paintable paper. How did I do?
